8th April 1969 and 'Peak' Class Type 4 diesel electric No. D148 departs from Gloucester Eastgate with 1N84, the 13.40 Bristol Temple Meads - York service. New from Derby Works in December 1961, the loco became Class 46 No. 46011 under TOPS in 1973. It was withdrawn in November 1984 and cut up at Swindon Works during January 1986. The remains of the trackwork and semaphore signalling, redundant with the opening of Gloucester Panel in May 1968, was still to be cleared away. So much more has since disappeared, with Eastgate Station, the long connecting footbridge, water tower and good shed all swept away. Even the office tower block, then being constructed in the background, has now been demolished.
