English Electric Type 4 No. 407 being shunted around Crewe Diesel Depot yard by classmate No. 421 on 16th August 1971. New from Vulcan Foundry in March 1968, it became Class 50 No. 50007 under TOPS in 1973. It was named 'Hercules' at Laira MPD on 6th April 1978 and later received celebrity status when it was turned out in GWR lined green livery and renamed 'Sir Edward Elgar' by Simon Rattle in a ceremony at London Paddington Station on 25th April 1984. The loco was withdrawn from service in March 1994 and is now preserved at the Midland Railway at Butterley.
