Maroon heaven at Gloucester Horton Road MPD on 8th September 1969 with 'Western' Class diesel hydraulic No. D1016 'Western Gladiator' stabled next to another hydraulic, North British built 'Warship' Class No. D842 'Royal Oak'. D1016 was new from Swindon Works in February 1963 and had a service life of just under 13 years, being withdrawn in December 1975. D842 was less lucky, lasting less than 11 years, new in December 1960 and withdrawn in October 1971. Both met their end at Swindon Works.
