On the 12th February 2024, an LNER Azuma Class 800/1 No. 800109, leaves Darlington forming the 14.00 LNER Azuma service from London King's Cross to Aberdeen. Of note are the new works being undertaken by Siemens on behalf of Network Rail to upgrade the power supply on the ECML. These works are part of phase 2 of the project from Doncaster to Edinburgh and involve the provision of a sub station to the right and the erection of additional overhead masts.
