In late afternoon on 20th September 2023, Gresley A4 Pacific No. 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley', passes Smardale near Kirkby Stephen with the returning 'Settle and Carlisle Fellsman' charter from Carlisle to Crewe, via the S&C promoted by Saphos Trains.
Class 47 No. 47805 / D1935 'Roger Hosking MA 1925 - 2013', is at the rear of this train.
