Trenitalia class E.464 No. 464.376 approaches Taormina in Sicily on 9th August 2022, with the previous day's 19.05 Milano Centrale - Siracusa overnight service, at this point running over two hours behind schedule. This type of delay seems to be quite common, primarily resulting from delays on the Italian mainland being compounded by late arrival at Villa San Giovanni from where the train uses the train ferry for the short sea crossing to Messina and having to use a later than scheduled train ferry. The 700 and strong single cab E.464 fleet has now replaced class E.656 locomotives on services in Sicily.
