As a result of the ECML being closed north of Berwick due to Engineering works, Virgin Trains East Coast services were diverted from Newcastle to Carlisle where they joined the WCML to continue their journey to their Scottish destination. Here, Virgin Trains East Coast Class 43/2 HST No. 43208 'Lincolnshire Echo' crosses the multiple tracks at Carlisle South Junction on its approach to Carlisle, heading the 08:00 London King's Cross to Aberdeen service on 16th September 2017. Its Classmate No. 43295 was on the rear of the train.
