Railway Herald
A new arrival present at the Statfold Barn Railway open day on 10th September 2016 was Hunslet 0-4-0ST Cloister. Bearing Hunslet Works Number 542 she was built in 1891 in Leeds for the Dinorwic Slate Quarry at Llanberis, Wales. Named Cloister after the 1893 Grand National winner she remained working at Dinorwic until 1962 when sold for preservation in Hampshire and until recently was in use at the Purbeck Mineral Museum in Dorset. Cloister is unusual among the surviving Quarry Hunslets as she has never been fitted with a steam brake or a cab extension so is almost as delivered in 1891.
