On an extremely wet 2nd April 2016, the ECML was closed between Doncaster & York due to engineering works, necessitating relevant services to be re-routed via Knottingley & Church Fenton, creating some unusual sightings. Here, Virgin Trains East Coast Class 43/3 HST No. 43308 'HIGHLAND CHIEFTAIN' passes under the metal girder section of Common Road Bridge NOC/49 and through Church Fenton Station, heading the 10:30 London King's Cross to Edinburgh service. Its Classmate No. 43318 worked the rear of the train.
