Transnet, the national railway company in South Africa, have their Steam Heritage Depot at Voorbaai, Mossel Baai, in the Western Cape. A number of steam locomotives are stored at the Depot and following a recent assessment by Depot staff, certain locomotives have been identified to be kept, while others will be scrapped. In this view, taken on 9th March 2016 inside the workshop at the depot, the SAR Class 19B No. 1412, on the left, has been the subject of an overhaul and is virtually complete. The following weekend the locomotive was taken to the Ceres Rail Company in Ceres, for use on the Wolseley to Ceres line, which climbs up the scenic Michell's Pass. The SAR Class 19D No. 2640, to the right, is also the subject of an overhaul and is destined to go to the George to Knysna, Outeniqua Choo - Tjoe line, once that line is reopened following the serious landslip, which occurred near Wilderness in 2006.
