During November 2013 work started replacing lengthy sections of worn-out track on the Southport - Wigan line which resulted in works trains visiting Southport to reverse and gain access to the works site(s). On 2 5th November Class 70 No.70016 waited to depart from Southport with a train that had been brought in by Class 70 70011 which was now at the rear of the train.
