Just released from Crewe Works following overhaul and with the paint barely dry, English Electric Type 4 diesel electric Class 40 No. 212 'Aureol' awaits duty at Crewe Diesel Depot on 26th May 1971. New from Vulcan Foundry in May 1959 and first allocated to Willesden (1A), it was named at Liverpool Riverside Station on 20th September 1960. It became No. 40012 under TOPS and later became Departmental No. 97407. Withdrawn from Longsight in April 1986, the loco is now preserved at the Midland Railway Centre.
