On the 20th October 2013, DCR operated Class 56, No. 56311, passes through Darlington North Road station with a train of empty coal wagons from Wolsingham Coal terminal to York Holgate sidings, in preparation for working the Butterwell opencast coal traffic in the coming week. The buildings at Darlington North Road station, which was an original station of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, now form the "Head of Steam", Darlington Railway Museum.
