Stanier Class 5MT 4-6-0 No. 44971 runs light engine through Preston Station on 28th April 1968. New from Crewe Works in April 1946 and first allocated to Sheffield Millhouses (19B), the loco soldiered on until the end of BR steam, being withdrawn from Lostock Hall in August 1968. It was stored there until being towed away to Drapers of Hull on 8th January 1969, where it was cut-up during February of that year.
