Seen from the now disused platform 1a at Scarborough Station is Falsgrave Tunnel serving the Whitby line, Gallows Close goods yard and carriage sidings. The tunnel opened in 1883 and the line to Whitby closed in 1965 under the Beeching Report, while Falsgrave Tunnel closed in the 1980s along with Gallows Close Goods Yard. The tunnel is now bricked up in this picture taken on 7th January 2009 and by January 2016, Platform 1a is now inaccessible.
