On Thursday 23rd February 1995 SNCB Class 18 C-C No. 1803 waits to depart Paris Gare-du-Nord Station light engine for La Chapelle Depot having previously worked a TEE service from Brussels. Belgium Railways operated 6 of these Alstrom 4 system locos able to operate on Belgium, French, German or Netherlands Railways which were delivered in 1973 / 1974. Over 72 feet long, and weighing 113 tonnes these locos could develop 5,790 hp and had a maximum speed of 112 mph. Replaced on TEE services by Thalys TGV's the Class 18's were withdrawn between 1997 and 1999. No. 1803 managed to survive until February 2012 when it was finally scrapped at Sokolov in the Czech Republic after several attempts at using the loco on railway construction projects failed.
