Class 58 No. 58043 is pictured under construction inside the erecting shop at BREL Doncaster Works on Sunday 11th May 1986. Released into traffic during July of that year she joined the rest of the class at Toton MPD in Railfreight Red Stripe livery. No. 58043 had a relatively short operating life on BR hauling heavy freight traffic around the Midlands and Southern England until switched off as surplus to requirements at Eastleigh TMD in August 2002. Exported to Spain for infrastructure duties in April 2003 and later renumbered as No. L37.
