SR Merchant Navy Pacific No. 35018 'British India Line' in Barry Yard on Sunday 25th August 1968. Built at Eastleigh Works in May 1945 No. 35018 was the first Merchant Navy to be rebuilt, emerging from Eastleigh Works in February 1956. Virtually all of her life was spent allocated to Nine Elms MPD, London and it was from here that she was condemned in August 1964. Arrival at Barry was in December 1964. No. 35018 left Barry for preservation in March 1980 initially moving to the Mid Hants Railway. Later a move was made to a restoration site in Portland, Dorset but in 2012 a further move took her up the M6 to Carnforth where it is believed she May finally be restored, nearly 50 years since withdrawal by BR.
