Nominally 2 4th October 1977 was the last day of "Channel island Boat Train" services between Waterloo and Weymouth and Class 74 74007 worked the last down service, here seen leaving Southampton Central under the famous gantry.
This proved not to be the last service of the day as sister engine 74003 worked an evening service from Waterloo that departed shortly after the last up service arrived back in Waterloo.
