The 24th June 2024, turned out to be a day of cancellations and delayed trains at Carlisle, brought about by an overhead wire issue at Law Junction, near Motherwell, which affected services to and from Glasgow Central. Considerable confusion occurred around lunchtime with services being held at Carlisle station. In this view an Avanti West Coast Class 390 No. 390114 'City of Manchester' has just arrived into platform 4 with the 10.30 Avanti West Coast service from London Euston to Glasgow Central, which arrived at Carlisle at 14.33: 46 minutes late. Platform 3, the normal platform for this service, is already occupied by a Trans Pennine Express service; the 11.21 Trans Pennine Express service from Manchester Piccadilly to Glasgow Central operated by Class 397, No. 397005. In the end, both services would be terminated at Carlisle. To the far left is a ScotRail Class 156, No. 156503, which will ultimately depart with the 17.25 service from Carlisle to Dumfries.
