In 1987, consideration was given to using the BR Class 50 on freight trains and 50049 Defiance was renumbered to 50149, equipped with modified Class 37 lower-geared bogies and limited to 80mph. The loco is shown here at Par in its Railfreight General livery on 28th August 1988. No. other classmates were converted and the loco would assume its original identity in 1989.
