On 11th December 2019, East Midlands Railway Inter City Class 222 No. 222104 with Class 222 No. 222009 trailing, heads north past the derelict South Wingfield Station buildings on a London St Pancras to Sheffield service. The Station was built in 1839-40 to the designs of Francis Thompson for the North Midland Railway and is listed at Grade II*. It has recently been the subject of a Compulsory Purchase Order by the local council and has now passed to the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust for restoration and potential use for business and/or community purposes.
