Taken from the B741 road just north of Dalmellinton Ayrshire on 25th February 1977 NCB West Ayr Area 0-6-0T No. 17 has just arrived at Pennyvenie Colliery, with a rake of empty coal wagons from Waterside Washery and is about to start shunting the colliery yard. The loco has an old NCB coal wagon attached behind the cab to increase working time away from shed while nearest the smokebox is an old wooden bodied internal use NCB wagon used for tripping newly mined coal from the colliery to the washery for grading. No. 17 was built by Andrew Barclay at their Kilmarnock Works in 1913 as works No. 1338 and continued in service on the Waterside System until it's closure the in 1978. Subsequently passing into preservation she can currently be found under restoration at the Llangollen Railway.
