Since the demise of the Scarborough Spa Express over this route, there are few charter trains using the York to Harrogate line. The Royal Scotsman was however routed along the line on 16th July 2015 when it worked from York via Harrogate and Leeds, returning to York and on to Alnmouth. The train is seen crossing the River Nidd at Knaresborough headed by class 57 No. 57315.
