A rather battered Class 24 No. 24006 is seen in a siding at Eastfield MPD Glasgow on Sunday 5th May 1978. Built at BR Derby Works and delivered in January 1959 as Type 2 No. D5006 early allocations included Derby, Hither Green, Crewe, Rugby and Stoke before a final move to Eastfield in March 1971. Withdrawn during August 1976 the loco was then utilised at Eastfield as a training / rerailing vehicle at the back of the Depot until the Autumn of 1980. A short tow to Glasgow Works followed where No. 24006 was scrapped during November 1980. This was the last Class 24 on BR property apart from Research and train heating machines.
