1939 built 2-6-2T No. 99 6001-4 has just arrived at Hasselfelde with the 13:57 from Gernrode on 1st July 2014. After taking water it will run round the train and depart bunker first for Eisfelder Talmuhle. This is a through service but all trains have to reverse here and retrace the 4km to Stiege in order to proceed on their journey. No. 99 6001-4 was built by Krupps in Essen, Germany as works number 1875 and was designed as a prototype for a series of narrow gauge locos for this region of Germany. World War 11 ended all construction work and no more of the class were ever built. A new boiler was fitted during a heavy overhaul last year and No. 99 6001-4 is currently the normal steam motive power for the Quedlinburg to Eisfelder Talmuhle services at this time, although one of the Mallet locos, 1916 vintage 0-4-4-0T No. 99 5906-5, was present in the shed at Gernrode as a standby loco.
