Class 31 No. 31107, seen at Worksop Depot Open Day on 5th September 1993, was named 'John H Carless V.C.' in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the medal award for bravery on HMS Caledon in WW1. No. 31107 ended its days being used by Network Rail in a filmed crash (shown on 'Top Gear') into a family car to help in the promotion of road safety.
