Tuesday 8th August 1978 finds Class 40 No. 40084 stabled at the North end of Perth Station. New to BR in July 1960 as No. D284 and renumbered under TOPS during December 1973 as No. 40084 she spent a good deal of her life allocated to BR's Eastern Region including spells at both York and Healey Mills. Withdrawl was to occur during May 1983 while the loco was present at BREL Crewe Works for repairs. Severe bogie fractures were discovered and with the run down of the Class underway repairs were not authorised. Final disposal was undertaken by Crewe Works during May 1984.
