The 20 members of the Class 31/0 fleet were withdrawn as non-standard during the 1970s and towards the end of their life were used on restricted duties around Stratford - including engineering trains. On 25th June 1978 Class 31/0 No. 31003 was on one such service, being noted at Bethnal Green during engineering works on the line.
