The closure of the WCML south of Stafford for 9 days over the festive season to renew track in Shugborough Tunnel meant the diversion of many trains between Crewe and Colwich Junction via Kidsgrove and the former North Staffs line. On 28th December Virgin Class 390 Pendolino No. 390132 'City of Birmingham' passes through Kidsgrove on the branch line from Crewe South Junction and takes the main line south to Stoke-on-Trent with the 07:37 Glasgow Central to London Euston service.
