After a good run from Bury to Heywood 37901 'Mirless Pioneer' ran round the stock at Heywood to head back to Bury. However as the locomotive rounded the curve back towards the platform it failed and came to a stop some distance from the platform. It could not be coaxed back into operation and a rescue locomotive was summoned from Bury.
