PS Waverley leaves Helensburgh Pier on 12th July 2018. The ship is the last ocean going paddle steamer in the world, and was originally built for service with the LNER. John Whitehouse

The £2.3 million appeal to ‘Save the Waverley’, launched on 15th June, is bearing fruit, as the appeal has already been sufficiently successful for a deposit to be lodged against an order for two replacement boilers.

Being able to place this order so quickly significantly increases the chances that the P.S. Waverley will return to service in 2020.

However, placing the order is just the beginning, as the full price of the boilers still needs to be raised, and readers are encouraged to click on the banner advert on our imaging centre and railtours pages, which provide details of how you can donate to save this very important vessel

See the next issue of Railway Herald for the full story. Railway Herald is proud to be supporting the campaign and helping to raise the profile of the ship among the railway community.
