The rain was coming down at Culgaith near Appleby, in the afternoon of the 26th August 2023, when Bullied Merchant Navy Pacific No. 35018 'British India Line' passed hauling the returning Cumbrian Mountain Express rail charter promoted by the Railway Touring Company, which, due to industrial action, was terminating at Sandbach, near Crewe. The charter left Carlisle on time at 13.52, with steam haulage to Preston and then diesel haulage from Preston to Sanbach.
