By this time Wennington Junction was the only surviving signalbox between Settle Junction and Carnforth on the former Little North Western route and was invariably swithched out as on this occasion when Class 47 No. 47647 works the "bottom leg" of the Cumbrian Mountain Express to Hellifield where it handed over to LNER Class V2 No. 4771 Green Arrow for the northbound trip over the S&C on 6th May 1989
