Following fairly heavy snow showers over the weekend 30th January 1978 dawned sunny and cloudless in Ayrshire. In this image NCB Ayrshire Area No. 10, an Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST built in 1947 with works number 2244, is seen pushing a loaded train of 'tub' wagons up the incline to the Dunaskin Washery near Dalmellington. Once past the Washery the wagon brakes would be pinned down, the loco would return to the exchange sidings, and the wagons would then freewheel into the Washery yard. This would be one of the last occasions to photograph the 4 working locos in these conditions as the Colliery was shut down in July 1978.
