LNER Class A4 Pacific No. 60019 'Bittern', the fastest steam locomotive in preservation, running as No. 4464 in Garter Blue, approaches Bishopthorpe Crossing, some 3 miles south of its York destination with the Steam Dreams / West Coast Railways 1Z69, 07:25 London King's Cross to York 'Cathedrals Express' excursion and return, on 4th December 2014. Subject to no 'emergency' requests for last-minute stand-in power, this journey was planned to be its penultimate excursion, as on 30th December 2014 it undertakes The Bittern Farewell Tour from London King's Cross to Lincoln and return - its final tour before being withdrawn for its scheduled major overhaul at Locomotive Services Ltd's new Crewe engineering base.
