NCB West Ayr Area 0-6-0T No. 17 is seen approaching Dalmellington with a train of empty NCB 16 ton wooden bodied coal wagons bound for the nearby Pennyvenie Colliery on Friday 25th February 1977. No. 17 was a local Ayrshire product built by Andrew Barclay of Kilmarnock in 1913 as works number 1338 and spent her working life in Scotland being withdrawn from service later in 1977 and sent to the NCB Workshops in Cowdenbeath, Fife where she was deemed to be worn out. Subsequently bought for preservation she can be found at the Llangollen Railway in Wales although currently stored out of use.
