On Tuesday 2nd May 1978, Class 27/0 No. 27007 is shown stabled on Ayr MPD in the company of an unidentified Class 25/2. Delivered new in September 1961 as Type 2 No. D5353 to Eastfield Shed in Glasgow it spent nearly all of her 24 year working life on West Coast of Scotland duties. Renumbered under TOPS in April 1974 as Class 27/0 No. 27007 she was eventually transferred north to Inverness TMD from where withdrawl took place during January 1985. A new life in preservation beckoned and she departed Scotland for use on the Mid Hants Railway where she remains today, although currently out of service undergoing an overhaul. The high footbridge on the left side of the picture was a great vantage point for photography and also served as the main entrance on foot to the depot.
