Refurbished Class 303 Electric Unit No. 303083, in Strathclyde Transport orange and black livery, crosses the River Clyde and approaches Glasgow Central Station on Tuesday 29th July 1986. Built locally at the Pressed Steel factory in Linwood near Paisley in 1961 No. 303083 spent over 40 years operating the electrified services on the North and South banks of the River Clyde around Glasgow and became one of the last 9 Class 303 units left in service when finally withdrawn during October 2002. Sold to the Immingham Railfreight Terminal on Humberside for final disposal this would be the only time that No. 303083 would leave the environs of Glasgow. Scrapping took place fairly swiftly upon arrival at Immingham with the 2 driving trailers being cut up in February and the motor car in March 2003.
