Class 43 No. 43172, in original Inter-City 125 livery, eases out of Durham Station and passes Durham Cathedral with a southbound Cross Country service on Wednesday 18th March 1987. The nose of the HST power car is just approaching the start of the viaduct that crosses the city. Built at BR Crewe Works in September 1981 No. 43172 was delivered new to the Western Region of British Railways and today, June 2014, remains in front line line service with First Great Western allocated to Old Oak Common.
