The growth of MGR traffic to Fiddlers Ferry from Yorkshire collieries led to a number of Class 76 locomotives being modified with air brakes and multiple working controls. On 3 1st May 1974 modified class 76s No.76007 + No.76026 drifted through Penistone on the Mottram - Wath leg of an MGR service returning from Fiddlers Ferry to a Yorkshire colliery for refilling.
