There are many miniature railways throughout the U.K, but the Wells & Walsingham Light railway in Norfolk has two unique features. Firstly, it is the longest 10 1/4" (260mm) narrow gauge railway in the world at 4 miles in length, running between Wells and Walsingham. Secondly, the railway operates two "Garratt" steam locomotives. The first "Garratt" was built by Neil Simkins in 1986, as No. 3 "Norfolk Hero" and the second Sister loco also built by Neil Simkins was built in 2010 as No. 6 "Norfolk Heroine". Both locos having a wheel notation of 2-6-0-0-6-2. The latter No. 6 is photographed here taking on water at Wells-Next-The-Sea under glorious sunshine on 25th August 2012.
