The GCRN is one of the few heritage lines to operate later variations of the air braked Mark 2 coaches. One great example is shown here in the form of No. 1215, a Mark 2f Buffet Open First. This was converted from a standard FO to an RFB in 1988 and was employed on Cross Country workings later finishing up with Virgin Cross Country. It was subsequently cascaded to Anglia for use on services out of Liverpool Street. Once it was made surplus to requirements on Anglia it was withdrawn and has since been preserved. It is restored externally to original Inter-City Blue & Grey livery and complements the small rake of air braked blue/grey stock which is increasingly very appropriate for recreating the 'look' of 1970's/1980's diesel haulage.
