On the rear of the 12 coach special to Wembley was Res-liveried Class 86 No. 86401, which upon arrival at Leeds powered the special working down the East Coast Main Line to Wembley. As well as the '86 making a rare appearance in Leeds it was also the first (and only?) time a Class 86 had worked down the Leeds to Bradford line. No. 86401 is seen propelling the train out of Shipley and down the Aire Valley line to Leeds on 3rd May 1997. No. 86401 had the distinction of being the only '86 to be painted in Network SouthEast livery for use on Northampton commuter services, it was also named 'Northampton Town'. No. 86401 still survives today and is now back in its Network SouthEast livery and has been reunited with its 'Northampton Town' nameplates. It is owned by the AC electric locomotive group.
