A few miles before Kamloops, the Rocky Mountaineer runs alongside the Thompson River, as it flows out of Kamloops Lake. This part of the Rockies is in a 'rain shadow' and is a hot desert in the middle of the ice-capped mountains. The train is very, very long and I was seated near the rear, to take this photograph of the front of the train entering a tunnel, on 14th August 2005. (I didn't get a chance to identify the loco, as it was always too far away!).
