'Western' No. 1055 Western Advocate waits for the road at Eggesford on 30th June 1973 with the seasonal Paddington - Barnstaple service. Although class 52s were officially banned from the Exeter - Barnstaple line the failure of D5823 at Exeter, with no other Type 2 available, there was no option if the loaded train was to reach its destination.
