Just after 13.00 on Sunday 9th December 1984 No. 87023 departed Rugby on up road and ploughed into the rear of the overhead electrification train being pushed back to Rugby by 25191. The driver had illegally passes a ground signal at danger. The 87 driver jumped clear but two passengers were slightly hurt. By the time I arrived the stock had been towed back. The 87 was towed to a siding at the wooden bridge north of station where it stood for two weeks before being towed to Crewe. Photo by
