It's just after 03:00 at Waterloo and SR Merchant Navy 35028 Clan Line has just arrived from Eastleigh Works hauled by diesels. The diesels were uncoupled at Waterloo West Crossings and Clan Line steamed into the then platform 12 alongside LSWR M7 No. 245 which had been positioned ahead of a W & C car. Clan Line later moved to (then) platform 13 for the start of the Waterloo Open Day on 1st October 1988. This was the first steam at a Southern London terminus since the end of steam in 1967.
