Class AD60 Beyer Peacock Garratt 4-8-4 and 4-8-4 No. 6040, the last built in 1956, was first used on branch line heavy freight as it had a light axle load of only 16 tons. However, after modifications it was used on the mainlines until 1967, and was known as a 'Super Garratt' with a tractive effort on 63490 lbf. Cosmetically restored No. 6040 is seen at the New South Wales Rail Museum at Thirlmere on 18th April 2023.
