The Puffing Billy Railway was opened in 1900 to serve farming and timber industries, and is now a leading Australian heritage railway of 2ft 6in gauge running over the 25km from Belgrave to Gembrook. Here, Victorian Railways Class NA No. 8A 2-6-2T built 1908 at Newport Workshops, featuring a stovepipe tapered chimney and steel 'cow-catcher', and South African Beyer Peacock Garratt 2-6-2 and 2-6-2 No. NG129 built 1951 double head the 10:00 service from Belgrave to Lakeside on 15th April 2023, and are seen passing over Monbulk Creek wooden trestle. The dangling of legs outside the open sided carriages is allowed (to Lakeside); an experience not to miss!.
